Independent research. One consistent scoring framework.
SaaSRealCost exists to answer one question honestly: what will this software actually cost you — not just today, but as you grow? Here's exactly how we research, score, and stay accountable.
Why SaaSRealCost exists
Advertised pricing rarely tells the full story. A low starting price can hide steep costs once you add seats, contacts, features, or usage. Providers aren't required to make that easy to compare — so we do it for you.
SaaSRealCost was built to look past the headline price and evaluate what a piece of software really costs over time: as your team grows, as your usage increases, and if you ever need to leave.
SaaSRealCost is built and maintained by me, Jamal Bouch. My background combines a degree in Mathematics, training in Business Administration & Management, and a degree in Applied Psychology — a mix that turns out to matter for this kind of research: getting the numbers right, understanding how pricing structures are actually built, and paying attention to how pricing pages are designed to influence a buying decision.
I built SaaSRealCost because comparing software pricing is harder than it should be. Every provider presents its numbers differently, and the headline price rarely tells you what you'll actually pay once you factor in growth, add-ons, and renewal terms. This site applies one consistent framework — outlined below — to every provider, so you can compare on equal terms instead of taking each provider's marketing at face value.

The Real Cost Score™ framework
Every provider we cover is evaluated against the same five criteria, each weighted equally. No provider is scored on a different scale, and no criterion is adjusted to favor a particular outcome.
20%
Starting Price
How accessible and competitive is the entry-level plan?
20%
Growth Cost
What happens to the bill as users, contacts, or usage scale up?
20%
Hidden Extras
Which important features or capabilities cost extra, and how clearly is that disclosed?
20%
Cost Transparency
How clearly does the provider explain pricing, limits, and conditions upfront?
20%
Ease of Exit
How straightforward is it to downgrade, cancel, or migrate away?
How we research each provider
Pull current pricing directly from the sourceWe start with the provider's own official pricing page — not third-party aggregators — to record current plans, seat costs, and billing terms.
Identify add-ons and growth triggersWe map out what happens as usage grows: additional seats, contact tiers, feature gates, and optional add-ons that aren't included in the base price.
Score against the five-criteria frameworkEach criterion is scored independently on a 10-point scale, then combined into the final Real Cost Score using equal 20% weighting.
Write the verdictWe summarize who the provider is genuinely a good fit for, and what to watch out for before committing.
Recheck on a regular cyclePricing changes. We revisit provider pages periodically and note the date pricing was last verified on every page.
Editorial independence
Our scores are based on publicly available pricing and terms, assessed against the same framework for every provider — regardless of whether we have a commercial relationship with them. A provider cannot pay for a higher score, and our research is published whether the outcome is favorable to them or not.
How we make money
SaaSRealCost is free to use and supported primarily through affiliate commissions. When you click through to a provider and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.
This never influences our scoring. Affiliate relationships are evaluated using the exact same five-criteria framework as every other provider we cover, and commission rates play no role in how a provider is scored.
What we don't do
✕Accept payment for a higher score
✕Hide or omit unfavorable findings
✕Copy scores from other review sites
✕Use outdated pricing without verifying it
Corrections & updates
Pricing changes constantly, and providers sometimes restructure plans without notice. If you spot pricing on our site that no longer matches what a provider currently charges, we want to know — accuracy is the entire point of SaaSRealCost.
