HubSpot Cancellation: What Happens When You Leave?
HubSpot's cancellation rules depend heavily on the commitment term attached to the subscription. Turning off auto-renewal is not the same thing as ending a paid commitment immediately.
What happens when you cancel HubSpot?
HubSpot's current customer terms state that subscriptions normally renew automatically unless the applicable agreement or order says otherwise.
Under the current terms, a customer generally cannot cancel a subscription before the end of the current committed term, and prepaid or unused subscription fees are generally not refunded through the end of that term.
HubSpot's current cancellation guidance says mid-contract cancellations are not permitted for the subscriptions covered by that guidance. Turning off auto-renewal schedules the subscription to end at the renewal date.
The renewal date matters
Review Account & Billing and identify the current commitment end date and next renewal date.
HubSpot says a non-renewal notice is sent to the billing administrator and identifies the commitment term and effective cancellation date.
What happens after the paid term ends?
HubSpot's current help documentation says that after the effective cancellation date, the account is downgraded to HubSpot's free tools.
Cancelling the paid subscription and deleting the HubSpot account are separate actions.
Potential cost traps to check
Check the exact commitment term on the order or contract.
Check whether additional products, seats, add-ons or limits are part of the subscription.
Check the renewal price. HubSpot's current terms allow subscription fees to increase at renewal with advance notice for applicable increases.
Exit checklist
Identify every paid subscription.
Record the commitment end date and renewal date.
Export the data you need.
Turn off auto-renewal where applicable and keep the confirmation.
Confirm the effective cancellation date and whether the account has moved to free tools.
